Mod Strawberries

Let's customize the "Mod Strawberries" pattern to make the project YOU want! This class will teach you how to use the Mini Quick Curve Ruler to make ONE “Mod Strawberry".  Once you have mastered how to make one, you can then make the quilt in the pattern or one of the samples we have in the shop that use only 3 or 4 strawberries!  This is for an intermediate quilter. PRE-CUTTING REQUIRED - see below.

Supplies:

  •          “Mod Strawberries” pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful
  •          45mm rotary cutter with NEW blade (the 60mm rotary cutter is difficult to use with the curved ruler)
  •          Mini Quick Curve Ruler
  •          15” x 20” scrap piece of batting or flannel (approximate size)
  •          Some sort of fabric marking pen/pencil
  •          Basic Sewing supplies (thread, scissors, seam ripper, pins, etc)
  •          Sewing machine with ¼” foot
  •          You MUST come to class with all of your strawberry pieces pre-cut.  Class time will be used to teach the use of the Mini Quick Curve Ruler and assembly of block.  Cutting list below.
  •          Bring any left-over pieces of fabrics that you used for cutting your rectangles in case you need to re-cut anything.

Optional but helpful:

  •          “Lazy Susan” cutting mat OR a VERY small personal cutting mat
  •          Silver Sharpie (helpful for marking the curved ruler)

Fabric Cutting Requirements to make (1) “Mod Strawberries” Block

developed by Betsey Westover for class use

**You need to buy the pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful “Mod Strawberries” to assemble the block**

NOTE: In the cutting directions below, there are numerous pieces that are the same size, cut these pieces from different fabrics.  The only exception would be if you are using one fabric for your background.

Background Fabric:(Decide if your background will be scrappy or one fabric.  If scrappy, cut the pieces below from a variety of fabrics.)

  •          Two- 5 ½” x 5 ½” cut in half diagonally (if you are not sure what I mean; WAIT!)

*You only need (1) square for a block- but if doing a scrappy background, you need to cut (2) squares to get different fabrics at the bottom of the strawberry

  •          Four- 4” x 4 ½”
  •          Two- 2”x 3 ¼”
  •          Two- 2” x 3 ½”
  •          One-   3” x 3” (Cut 2 if doing a scrappy background)

Assorted Reds/Pinks Fabric: (Both shop samples used the “Raspberry fat quarter bundle”)

  •          Four- 2 ½” x 4 ½”
  •          Four- 2” x 3 ½”
  •          Seven- 2 ½” x    4”
  •          One- 4” x 4 ½”

Assorted Green Fabrics: (Both shop samples used a portion of greens from the “Sweet Pea fat quarter bundle”)

  •          Two -2” x 2 ¼”
  •          One -1” x 2”
  •          Two- 3” x 3”
  •          Five- 2 ½” x 4”
  •          Three - 4” x 4 ½”
